The Volkswagen company is a huge company. It’s a Fortune 500 company selling Volkswagen, Bugatti, Lamborghini and Audi cars. I work for the Audi Academy under the Audi division. Bobby works in the Audi Academy and within the Audi Academy, we are responsible for all of the dealer training operations and some internal training as well, but really the focus on certification programs for our dealers. The academy has an online course catalog, listing courses for specific cars, sound systems, and so forth. The course descriptions varied, ranging from being one-liners to a hundred words. My job was to standardize the course descriptions. There were over 200 courses that were standardized. One of the web-based training courses I worked on ironically was the Bang and Olufsen car sound systems. It’s been interesting because when you develop online courses, you have to know how you want to format them – arrange them on the website. You also have to be familiar with the Articulate program, which has Quizmaker and Engage components and arrange the content on a template. And, finally, you have to be well-versed with the product itself – the Bang and Olufsen, for instance, in my case. So, all of that’s needed for the course development. One thing, for the audio part, I would write the script and hand it over to my co-worker to be the voice over. After uploading the recording, I work again with colleagues to sync the voice with the content. One of my internship projects is redesigning the Carpool Fleet management program, and then we contracted outside technology vendors to develop the system for us. So that’s one of the end-start projects I did. The other project was the e-catalog for dealers to use to purchase products. I was responsible for updating the parts numbers and to look for any discrepancies. That plus some copywriting for the product descriptions. From new projects that we’ve challenged William with are things like request for quotes. So in many cases we have new accessories that we want to introduce. There are multiple potential vendors, so we’ve tasked William with creating or helping us refresh our request for quotes based on the material or commodity that is being quoted. Another assignment that we’ve given William is that we have produced a lot of contract documentation or request for information or business documents and what William is helping us with is after different team meetings, William would go in and take the notes and feedback and email feedback from everyone, adjust those business documents and then send them out to everyone for review, comment, and approval. Specifically, I’ve learned from this about the career path I want to take whereas before I wasn’t too sure. I work all day here in an office setting and surrounded by people and one thing I’ve learned is that I like writing, really enjoy it. This course descriptions really got me to enjoy writing so I’m going to focus more on writing.
