Greetings! I’m Geofatboy. I took my Jeep
to the car wash the other day to get it cleaned up. Well when I came out of the
car wash I noticed that something didn’t look the same as it did when I went into
that car wash! Let’s check it out- Looks good on this
side, let’s go over to this side… Oh! I don’t think that mirror is supposed
to be in that position is it? Well here you go. It broke right off, and this is what’s left. I actually tried to hot glue it temporarily just to allow me to make it
home without the mirror falling off and it actually did make it.
I started looking to buy a replacement and the dealer wanted about a hundred
and sixty dollars, so then I went online. I looked at Amazon and I found one for
about thirty-five thirty-six dollars and I’ll put a link to it right underneath
this video. So if you need one you can pick it up. This is the
driver’s side, but you can also get the passenger side in the same listing. All
right. I’ll show you how easy it is to replace this. For this job I’m going to
break out my handy little Jeep socket wrench set. It’s got the most
commonly used Torx bits for the Jeep Wrangler, and the little socket wrench
here. This is perfect to leave in your glovebox at all times because it’s very
handy when dealing with anything on the Jeep Wrangler. All these Torx bits will
cover just about anything on the Jeep that uses a Torx bolt. All right so
we’re going to use for this removal and replacement of the mirror we’re going to
use the T40 Torx bit. I’ll just insert that into the socket like so. Ready to
rock and roll! Open your front door and you’ll see these two Torx bolts. These
are what hold the mirror in place. Here’s my broken mirror on the outside, it lines up with these two bolts on the inside. So we’re just gonna remove these two bolts
real quick… They’re pretty long so it takes a bit of
unscrewing. We’ll set that right up on the dashboard and then hit the other one. This one’s a bit tighter. and you might want to hold the outside
mirror portion just so it doesn’t fall and scratch your Jeep… Set that up on top.
Now let’s have a look. This should pull right out. Yep, just
like that! And here’s the old, very corroded, I live in the Chicago area, you
can tell that it’s got a bit of corrosion from snow and salt and what not. This is some sort of a cast metal aluminum. Okay, let’s set that down. I’ll clean this area up just a bit. Here’s the box with the new mirror,
hopefully they sent the right one. I ordered the driver side. And again,
this is from Amazon I’ll put a link underneath you can click on it and pick
up your mirror for the passenger side or driver’s side. Pretty nice that it comes
in this blue bag, it’s a great color! It’s Shave Nation blue. I like it! And here’s
the mirror, it looks exactly like the original. It’s a heck of a lot cleaner.
There you go, here they are side by side as far as the construction,
they are pretty much exactly the same. I can’t see any difference.
Alright let’s install this. Very simply just plug that right into the hole like
so, and then sneak around to the inside. If your window’s down it makes
much easier to hold on to and insert the screws at the same time. So I have the
screws right here. I’m going to insert those right into the fastening
bracket of the mirror, top and bottom. And then switch the socket to drive. Tighten it up… Just so it’s nice and snug.
You don’t want to use your King Kong muscles on this but just so it’s not
going to loosen up. And if you go in succession you’ll see that the other one
loosens up a bit each time and then you can retighten the next one. Just like
when you install a tire you go in sequence back and forth. Okay that’s it!
Look how nice! Just like the original only much blacker! It looks beautiful!
