Jennifer Hudson Sings A Change Is Gonna Come | AFI 2019 | TNT

[APPLAUSE] (SINGING) There’s an old
friend that I once heard say something that
touched my heart. And it began this way. I was born by the river. In the little tent. And just like that river,
I’ve been running ever since. It’s been a long, long, long– a long time coming, but I
know change is gonna come. Oh, yes, it will. Said I’d go to my brother. And I say brother,
brother, help me, please. But when I go to my brother,
he winds up, knocking me back down on my knees. There’d be times when I thought
I wouldn’t last for long. But somehow, I think
I’m able to carry on. It’s been a long, long, long– a long time coming. But change is gonna come. Oh, yes, it will. See that. There’s been times
when I thought I wouldn’t last for long. Well, somehow I’m able to go on. To carry on. It’s been a long, long, long– a long time coming. But I know a change,
change is gonna come. Yeah! Yes, it will! Wow! We love you so
much, Mr. Washington. You are so amazing. God bless you.

  4. There's an old friend
    That I once heard say
    Something that touched my heart
    And it began this way

I was born by the river
    In a little tent
    And just like the river
    I've been runnin' ever since
He said it's been a long time comin'
But I know my change is gonna come
    Oh, yeah

He said it's been too hard livin'
    But I'm afraid to die
I might not be if I knew
What was up there beyond the sky
It's been a long, a long time comin'
But I know my change has got to come
    Oh, yeah

I went, I went to my brother
    And I asked him: Brother
    Could you help me, please?
    He said: Good sister
I'd like to, but I'm not able
And when I, when I looked around
    I was right back down
    Down on my bended knees
    Yes, I was, oh

There've been times that I thought
I thought that I wouldn't last for long
But somehow right now I believe
That I'm able, I'm able to carry on

I tell you that it's been along
And oh, it's been an uphill journey
    All the way
    But I know, I know, I know
I know my change is gonna come

Sometimes I had to cry all night long
    Yes, I did
Sometimes I had to give up right
For what I knew was wrong
Yes, it's been an uphill journey
    It's sure's been a long way comin'
    Yes, it has
    It's been real hard
    Every step of the way
    But I believe, I believe
This evenin' my change is come
    Yeah, I tell you that
    My change is come

  5. A Change is Gonna Come

I was born by the river in a little tent
Oh and just like the river I've been running ev'r since
It's been a long time, a long time coming
But I know a change gonna come, oh yes it will

It's been too hard living, but I'm afraid to die
'Cause I don't know what's up there, beyond the sky
It's been a long, a long time coming
But I know a change gonna come, oh yes it will

I go to the movie and I go downtown
Somebody keep tellin' me don't hang around
It's been a long, a long time coming
But I know a change gonna come, oh yes it will

Then I go to my brother
And I say brother help me please
But he winds up knockin' me
Back down on my knees, oh

There have been times that I thought I couldn't last for long
But now I think I'm able to carry on

  7. I don’t get tired of this song, I have to listen to this song more than 5 times every day.
    Like Damn ❤️❤️❤️

  8. Every now and then I come back to search for Jhud. Like an addiction or a hunger that only she can fill. I “crave” her voice, if it makes any sense.

  9. I THANK GOD I'M STILL HERE,IF IT WON'T FOR GOD ,I WOULD NOT BE HERE,SINCE I KEPT GOD IN MY LIFE,HE KEPT ME ,THANK YOU GOD

  10. the way she said "I was born and on my knees" I felt that. She sung her lungs out. This was a beautiful tribute.

  11. Yesssss Ma’am she said “I Was Boorrrrnnnnn” I said alright everybody she bout to kill it🙌🏾❤️‼️RESPECT

  12. I admit I have hated on JH's voice for over a decade because I felt she sang from the talent and not from experience but I've noticed lately that she has "let go" and doing so has brought a another layer to her voice that hits the heart and not just the ear. Bravo!

  13. That part when she sang “a looooooooooooooiihhhiiiihhhhhoonnnnggg time coommmmmmiiiiinnnn” touched my heart!

  14. I could watch this forever…and I still tear up. She is an amazing singer. Watching Mr. Denzel Washington watching her was awesome. The way Mr. Spike Lee just watch in AWE was fantastic. This is by far in my Top 5 of you tube vids.

  15. Yousseff Zulficar, you posted about the vocal prowess and SKILL of the black woman! We salute you for telling the truth……..ANYBODY who responds with some counter-arguing bullshit about celine, ariana grande, christina, or jessie j being soul singers, OBVIOUSLY are not fans of those women! because ALL of them have admitted to patterning their vocal styles to Whitney, Aretha, or Patti….which proves your point.

  16. Oh please, blacks never had it so good!!! The only change we need now is to get rid of racist, discriminatory Affirmative Action. It is anti-every other race. It's coming too.

  17. when I tell you she sung this song down.🤯👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾
