Her name’s Sissi, I’m Francesco. I adopted her from a rescue group in Sicily, they brought her in Turin where I met her, ’cause I collaborate with them. One day they asked me to go to the veterinary clinic where she used to live, waiting for someone to adopt her. Sissi was found in Enna. Her weight was about 12 kg, which is half of what it’s supposed to be, she was wounded, she walked on three legs and had a bedsore deep to her bone You can still see the scars here. She wasn’t probably used for fighting but she was kept in a narrow place and wasn’t able to move, so besides that they didn’t use to give her much food, she couldn’t even move she had swollen teats so she was only meant to be a brood bitch and she was in an extremely bad shape. That was my first pitbull experience, I never had any prejudices against them, I’ve always thought that they are good looking dogs but I didn’t know them at all. Sissi recovered in like two months and she turned out the awesome dog she is now. Come! Come, sweetie. Good girl, aren’t you beautiful? When she totally recovered physically, I decided to attend some Gentle Team communication classes since I got a piece of advice by a friend of mine. These communication classes have been pretty interesting and allowed me to find out how she acts towards other dogs, without taking any risks, and to better understand her personality. Besides Sissi, I also have a male labrador retriever, who’s now 14 years old, I often walk them together, and people always show more interest in the labrador than in her, I noticed that they feel more comfortable with him, even though she’s very nice and sweet to people and always looks for cuddles. Whenever I take her to the vet, people pet her and say “how beautiful she is, what breed is she?” When I reply that she’s a pitbull, they pull out a weird face or get stiff ’cause people have huge prejudices against such dogs, which actually are adorable and very very sweet to people. All my dogs used to have some strict rules, ’cause since I live in a flat, I didn’t want them to get on the couch or sleep on the bed but since she came, because of her story and the fact that she really wins your heart, I overturned all those rules so now she sleeps on the couch and in bed with me and does all the things that were previously forbidden. Of course even the other dog got the same perks. I often go with her for a walk in the fields near my place and some months ago, when I didn’t know her that well, she suddenly ran towards three kittens from a farm nearby. I obviously chased after her ’cause I was afraid something bad could have happened. Two of them ran away, but one turned back and faced her. It was a kitten that little, all puffy and scared She went close to them, sniffed them a little and then I called her back. She had a last glance at him and came back, happy and wagging her tail. This experience made me realize that she’s a very clear-headed dog, totally non-aggressive, unlike people want to depict her. I wish you can all find a dog like her!
